Dr. Brown's:

Qualifications and Training

  • Dr. Brown has extensive education and training in the field of plastic surgery and specifically in the area of breast and body contouring surgery. He holds a medical degree from the University of Western Ontario and obtained his Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (F.R.C.S.C.) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 1993. He completed his Comprehensive Surgical Internship in 1989 at The Toronto Western Hospital.
  • Dr. Brown spent the five years from 1989 to 1994 as a resident, Plastic Surgery with the University of Toronto. In 1994, he became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Plastic Surgery. In addition to this, Dr. Brown completed a Masters in Education studying new techniques to teach and evaluate technical performance in the operating room.
  • Dr. Brown has held both Courtesy and Active staff positions with reputable hospitals across the Greater Toronto Area over the past eight years. He is an active staff member at North York General Hospital and Sunnybrook & Women's College Health Sciences Centre, both in Toronto, Canada.

Honours and Awards

Over the course of the past ten years, Dr. Brown has received tremendous recognition for his studies, his accomplishments and his work. He was awarded the Robert H. Ivy Award for the best paper at the ASPRS annual meeting in San Francisco, "A Cohort Study of Breast Cancer Risk in Breast Reduction Patients" (1998) and The University of Toronto, Department of Surgery, Distinguished Educator Award for Outstanding Contribution to Surgical Skills Education (1999).

Research and Investigation

A doctor gains both credibility and knowledge through research and investigation. Dr. Brown has received several research grants, both peer reviewed and non-peer reviewed. These grants have helped contribute to the publication of more than 15 scientific articles in the plastic surgery literature.

Teaching Summary

Dr. Brown has been involved with the University of Toronto, Department of Surgery for thirteen years. In his role as assistant professor he has been responsible for course design, research and clinical fellows, workshops, discussions and examinations. In the current academic year, Dr. Brown has a full slate that includes undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, elective students, residents and clinical fellows.
